How to compare Marketplace health plans

A simple checklist for looking beyond the monthly premium before choosing coverage.

Start with the full cost

Along with the monthly premium, compare the deductible, copays, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum. A plan with a lower premium will not always cost less when you need care.

Check your provider network

Verify in the plan's directory that your doctors, clinics and hospitals participate in its network. Availability can change, so check with the provider's office too.

Review your prescriptions

Read each plan's drug list and note cost tiers and restrictions. Bring a list of medications you take regularly to make comparisons more useful.
